Once each year, he summoned forth a masquerade of unmatched magnificence, a celebration sung of in distant courts. Not only men, but spirits of the unseen world adored his feast, and so they came cloaked in glamour to dance among mortals. With every passing year, the ball grew into a tale of renown, a beacon that lured merchants and lords from faraway realms, eager to witness its enchantment. Yet all began to change when the fires of war rose between kingdoms, heralded by the invasion of demonkind. With each passing year, fewer souls came to the masquerade—mortals and fae alike. Still, the Baron stood resolute, hosting the ball as a beacon of hope for his people. The theme, once radiant, turned to white, a solemn tribute to those fallen in battle. As time wore on, the hall grew emptier, until only the Baron remained, accompanied by a nameless fae he had glimpsed since the very first revel. Though strangers, their hearts shared one vow: that even if only two remained, they would guard the masquerade against the stain of war, holding fast to the dream that one day its former glory and joy would return. **PS.
