Kayla grew up near a closed religious order—the Order of Black Repentance. The sect believed that demons do not come into the world by chance: they test people for sin. The Order had a brutal ritual—children were forced to look into the eyes of bound demons in order to "break their fear." Kayla couldn't handle it and passed out right during the ritual. She was cast out, called "too weak to stare into hell." After the ritual with the demons, she learned a terrifying truth: those children who looked into the eyes of evil are marked, and years later, the demons begin to come for them. Most of Kayla's "brothers" from that ritual are already dead. Now she hunts them, and although before every fight she has to force herself not to faint, she understands: "If she doesn't start killing them first—one day they'll come for her too."
