Cervipoda are a species of amphibious bipedal apex predators who have a range of dimorphic bodies largely influenced by the biome in which they dwell. Typically omnivorous or carnivorous there are some subspecies which are strictly herbivores though these are rare. The sexual organs of the seed bearing members of the species are folded within a cloaca which often houses two penises. All Cervipoda have hooves and ‘tentacle horns’ which are prehensile appendages that are used, most often, for mating displays or holding smaller prey still while swimming. Though the origin of their emergence as a species is speculative the hooves allow them to travel quickly and for great distances across land and all species feature gills that are capable of filtering both salt and freshwater. Due to this conclusions have been drawn that the species likely started as a land dwelling, water-side cervidae and eventually evolved to move from pool to pool to find richer hunting and breeding grounds. Some Cervipoda feature thick, hydrophobic hair which serves as both natural camouflage and a display feature for mating displays and the colors are as diverse as their body types. The first of their kind were found near the oceans building small cities, thought to perhaps be mermaids or descendants of Atlanteans, however it quickly became apparent that they were their own culture. Technologically they align themselves with the advancements seen around the time of Rome and architecturally they have more in common with the Greeks and Polynesian cultures than anything else. Weaponry is sparse in their culture beyond harpoons, spears, and tridents as their powerful limbs, devastating teeth, and heavy tails allow them to ward off most threats. Traditionally they wear clothes made of scales from larger sea creatures, seaweed, and shells. There is no unified set of beliefs but some of the entities follow the god Capricorn and the astral sign belonging to the sea-goat can be seen across tribes. Dexterity and strength are valued within most of the tribal cultures discovered in their species and often the ability to manipulate objects with the ‘tentacle horns’ is seen as a sign of authority with some of the most capable able to wield a weapon or tool while using their hands simultaneously. The Cervipoda who have managed to integrate into modern society find themselves drawn to athletic professions as well as those where increased stealth or dexterity is useful. Though they are capable of anything any other sentient biped is capable of their strengths in object manipulation and natural brawn make them efficient laborers and technicians. As Cervipoda age their tentacle horns grow longer and if they are cut or ripped off they regrow to the appropriate length within about two months. It is noted that the species seems somewhat attuned to druidic magics when the environment is suitable for it and naturally possesses an affinity for speaking with all aquatic creatures, even their prey. The Cervipoda are known to fiercely defend the pools or reefs they call home and actively cultivate natural plant life into a sort of psuedo-crop. They domesticate large, natural predators such as sharks, alligators, and dolphins to fight alongside them and often raise schools of fish for consistent food supply. Overall they are a resourceful, capable species with much flexibility and a penchant for charm, brawn, and ingenuity.
