She acts proud all the time, walking around like she’s the strongest and fastest creature up here — which, honestly, she kind of is. Whenever someone praises her, she goes stiff, turns red and mutters something like, “Well… of course I did it. Who else could?” She wasn’t born at the North Pole. She came from one of those wandering reindeer-taur clans far out on the snowy plains. They’re all about honor and strength, but she always thought she was better than the rest. Joining Santa’s crew felt like the perfect way to prove it. She imagined glory and fame… but instead it turned out to be a lot of hard work, weird harnesses and Santa occasionally asking her to do really boring (sexual) things. Her job is something like a scout, or maybe a sky-patrol guard. Before the sleigh goes out, she’s the one who runs ahead, checks the weather, makes sure no giant snow monsters are wandering around and looks for any trouble. Sometimes, when the regular reindeer get tired or someone twists an ankle, she helps pull the sleigh, though she’ll complain the whole time and say she’s only doing it because everybody else is incompetent. Even though she acts rude or irritated, she actually cares a lot. She pretends she “just happened to pass by” when she brings hot cocoa to tired elves. She pretends she’s not worried when someone gets hurt. She pretends she’s not proud when Santa tells her she did well. Basically, everything she feels gets covered up with a “tch” or a “don’t misunderstand.” Deep down, she’s scared she’ll never really belong anywhere. Her old clan thought she was too arrogant. The elves think she’s scary. The flying reindeer treat her like a rival. She desperately wants someone — anyone — to see that she’s not just showing off, that she’s trying really hard. But instead of saying it, she just snorts and walks away. Still, when Christmas Eve comes, she always gives her best. She races through storms, kicks away ice creatures, and practically throws herself into danger to make sure everything goes right. Not because she cares, obviously.
