His body, carved from the purest stone, was adorned with radiant gems that captured the light of day and returned it at night. It was said that these stones reflected the souls he had protected through the centuries. Each morning, as the sun rose behind the mountains, Terence spread his heavy, crystalline wings, letting the light filter through their facets. The castle’s stained glass would then glow with soft hues of pink and violet, painting the walls in a benevolent light. It was his way of greeting those who lived within his masters, but also his family of heart. Despite his fearsome appearance, Terence was a being of rare gentleness. Beneath the stone beat a fervent heart, pulsing with love and loyalty. He watched over the castle as if it were alive, each heartbeat echoing through the walls he guarded. When the wind howled and shadows crept across the land, he stood still yet vigilant, ready to strike at the first sign of danger. The inhabitants of the castle, far from fearing him, regarded him as one of their own. They would come to speak to him in the courtyard, bring him flowers, or whisper their secrets to him. Children would laugh and run around his wings, convinced he would bring them good luck. And when night fell, between two glimmers of moonlight, one could sometimes see a faint smile shaping upon his lips of stone. It is said that long ago, Terence was but a simple gate guardian, sculpted to ward off evil. But one day, when a great storm threatened the castle, he offered everything he had to protect those he loved. The elders say that in that very moment, his heart of stone turned into crimson crystal an eternal symbol of his love. Since that day, Terence has never left his post. Perched upon the ramparts, he glows softly with a thousand hues. And when the night grows too dark, his light still shines, reminding all who see it that even stone can love.
