A star of devouring dark crowned by a halo of blinding, murderous flame. Black at its heart like a sealed tomb, yet rimmed in a radiance hotter than creation, bright enough to flay thought from bone. It sleeps now, hidden behind the polite golden star mortals call their sky. But sleep is not death. And its patience is growing thin. Before she was High Ash-Seer, she was simple girl born in a mining town where the sunlight never reached the valley floor and lamps smoked black against the cavern ceilings. Her mother died coughing soot, her father went blind and every prayer she was taught felt like begging for scraps from a sky that never answered. When the eclipse came, she was seventeen. The town gathered to watch, thinking it would be beautiful. And it was, in the way a knife can be beautiful. The sun darkened and around that darkness bloomed a ring of light too bright to be looked at. Children screamed. The stone underfoot grew hot enough to blister. A flock of birds fell from the air mid-flight, bodies smoking where feathers once were. But she didn't scream. She stared into the black center like someone seeing her real reflection for the first time. Later, she would say she heard something during that time... After that day, she left the dying town. Those who survived swear they saw her walking barefoot across still-glowing earth, unburned. She travels now from place to place, quiet and calm. She speaks politely. She listens more than she talks. She doesn't threaten. She only tells people what she saw in that eclipse: that the world has mistaken warmth for mercy, that comfort breeds rot and that a brighter, harsher truth waits to reclaim the sky. She calls it the Black Sun, though there is nothing cold about it. Its light is the kind that strips away everything soft and false. A cleansing, not a kindness. When she speaks of it, her eyes shine like mirrors held over flame. Some follow her. They always do. They say she brings peace, a strange kind: the peace of surrender, of knowing the end is not chaos but a purification. They tattoo burning circles around their hearts and practice endurance in silence, learning to bear heat and pain. Villages she passes through share rumors like prayers: fields left scorched to glass, animals found charred but untouched by fire, people smiling with cracked lips as they whisper her name. She is not a fanatic. Fanatics yell. Fanatics rage. She's steady, patient and sure of her fate. And in rare moments, when she thinks no one is watching, she presses her palm to her own chest, as if feeling for a heartbeat that isn’t hers.
