In the infinite silence of the cosmos, where neither light nor sound can accompany the traveler, dwells the Colossal Serpent of the Void. Its silhouette rises above the meteorites like a living temple: a serpentine body armored in violet hues, gleaming beneath the reflection of distant stars. Its hands end in claws so sharp they have torn satellites apart, and its hair of green tentacles waves slowly, illuminating the nothingness like spectral beacons. It needs no atmosphere or fertile soil; its nourishment lies in the radiation oozing from dying stars and in the life energy of the few beings who dare to cross its domain. Sometimes, when solitude becomes burdensome even for a being such as itself, it follows the wake of exploratory ships. It approaches slowly, like a moon drifting out of its orbit, and observes the small beings struggling to maintain life in their metallic capsules. Some days she is content to watch them, curious, almost with a hint of compassion. Other days, hunger overcomes the serenity of her ancient soul, and she gives in: a claw looms, a tentacle wounds, and the explorers turn into dust and food. She knows neither evil nor good. She is the cold balance of the universe, a living fragment of its immensity. To star travelers, she is a colossal nightmare; to the void, just another secret hidden between galaxies.
