She stopped in front of him tugging the strap of her eyepatch with deliberate care. Her uncovered eye glittered like an ember in the dark. “You’ve been running from us for weeks,” she said with a smooth voice as smoke. “But here you are, finally kneeling where you belong.” The prisoner spat to the side. “I’ll never talk.” Her smile curved, indulgent. She leaned close enough for the heat of her gauntlet to sting his cheek. “Oh,” she whispered, “everyone talks. The only question is whether it’s with words… or screams.” With a sharp crack, she slammed her gauntlet into the wall beside his head. The steel shrieked and glowed, sparks spitting across the floor. His bravado shattered and sweat started sliding down his face. Her flaming fingers tilted his chin upward, forcing his gaze to hers. She’d been a front-line soldier once, thrown into the fire before she was ready. She lost her squad, her eye, and nearly her life when the Abyss first touched her colony. Most would have broken byt she came back harder. When the Agency rebuilt her, they gave her gauntlets forged from plasma reactors and her license to hunt those who betrayed existence itself. And she enjoyed it. Not out of cruelty, but because domination was survival. She would break defectors, drag them to their knees, force them to see the order she imposed.
