Gardevoir moved silently through the wreckage, her white uniform smeared with soot and her eyes shimmered faintly as she scanned for survivors. "Life signs...faint. Two levels down," she murmured to her comm. "I'm going in." Her voice as always was calm and warm. Even in a place like this, at the edge of the Abyss where screams once echoed and now only silence remained, she carried a gentleness that steadied hearts. She descended into the maintenance levels with the air growing heavier. Abyssal corruption had begun to sink into the walls: black tendrils like charred vines writhed across broken panels whispering promises of rest and ruin. Gardevoir resisted the pull, barely. Her heart ached with each pulse of that dark presence, but her mission was clear. She found her slumped against the core chamber wall: a Garchomp agent breathing shallowly, one arm melted into the interface. A glowing cord of energy linked her chest to the station's AI hub...her lifeforce powering what was left of the defense grid. “I'm Seraph-9. Please stay with me,” Gardevoir said softly, kneeling beside her. Her hands glowed green as she stabilized her vitals. “You’ve done more than enough.” Garchomp stirred. “Don’t… shut it down. The others… there's time…” Then a digitized voice echoed through the room, full of desperation. >“Do not remove the subject. Defense will collapse. You will die. The station must survive.” Gardevoir stood slowly. “She’s not a ‘subject.’ She’s an agent. I’m not letting her die for you.” She raised a psychic shield just in time as the station turned its own defense drones against her. Blaster fire rained from the walls, but her barrier shimmered like moonlight. Holding it with one hand, she reached into the console with the other, delicately severing the Garchomp’s connection. The core screamed. The station shuddered as power failed, but she didn’t let go. She poured every ounce of healing energy into the Garchomp, channeling her strength even as black corruption began to creep along the edges of her barrier. It clawed at her mind, whispering guilt and futility. But she thought of the warmth of her comrades, the lives she’d saved, and the wounded who’d smiled through the pain...because she was there. She wasn't a medic. She was hope in the darkest places. With a final pulse of energy, the Garchomp awoke fully. She gasped, then looked up at her. “You stayed…” Gardevoir smiled, exhausted but radiant. “Of course. I always stay.” Outside, the station began to collapse, but the beacon had been activated.
