Ceratosaurus "horned" and "lizard, reptile" is a monotypic genus of predatory dinosaurs of the theropod clade that lived in the Late Jurassic period (Kimmeridgian — Tithonian centuries, 155.7—145 million years ago). The only kind. The type specimen found in the Morrison formation in the USA. The length of the skeleton of the largest ceratosaurus specimen found is estimated at about 7 m. The mass, according to various estimates, varies greatly: from 275 to 980 kg in different specimens. A distinctive feature is the raised growths on the nose and near the eyes. Ceratosaurus lived near rivers, lakes and swamps, often entering the water, and hunted aquatic animals: fish, crocodylomorphs and turtles.
